What if you can wear a beautiful ring or cufflinks made from the polluted air from some city? This is not the latest trend in fashion but a serious attempt to raise awareness about air pollution and the importance of reducing waste by making smog more tangible to the people.
This unusal jewellery is the part of Smog Free Project launched by famous Dutch designer & innovator, Daan Roosegaarde and his team of experts in Studio Roosegaarde. Smog particles, incorporated as small resin cubes, are the final product of Smog Free Tower installed first in Rotterdam and Beijing, one of the most polluted cities in the world. Since first towers in Rotterdam and Beijing, Smog Free Project campaigns have been launched in Korea, China, the Netherlands and Poland
True beauty is not a Louis Vuitton bag or a Ferrari, but clean air and clean energy
Smog Free Cubes, Smog Free Rings and Smog Free Cufflinks are unique jewellery made from compressed smog particles captured in transparent resin and individually crafted by Roosegaarde’s team. This popular gift for design lovers and green enthusiasts symbolises clean future where we all can be part of a solution. Each Smog Free Cube contains the smog out of 1000 cubic meters of air. By sharing Smog Free jewellery, you donate 1000m3 of clean air to the city and support further development of the project.
Smog Free Tower is the central part of the Smog Free Project. it is the world’s largest smog vacuum cleaner based on patented ion technology and it can clean 30.000m3 per hour, using green wind energy and no more electricity than a water boiler (1170 watts).
Daan Roosegarde was inspired by air purifying technology used indoors, to make a larger purifier placed in parks or public spaces or anywhere in the world with a goal to create smog-free zones, allowing people to breathe and experience clean air freely. The idea was born in Beijing, one of the most polluted cities in the world. The pilot project was placed in Rotterdam and officially launched in Beijing in autumn 2016. The studio has the plan to install towers all around the world, spreading the message of free access and availability of unpolluted air.
The Smog Free Tower in Beijing is supported by China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and won the German Design Award for Excellent Product Design. Smog Free Rings are now available via [email protected]
